PCB - Printed Circuit Board
Printed Circuit Boards / PCB’s explained
PCB stands for printed circuit board;
it is sometimes referred to as a PWB. A PCB
is a flat board that holds chips and other electronic components.
The circuit board is typically made of 2 to 10 layers that interconnect
components through copper pathways. The main printed circuit
board (PCB) in a system is called the system board; the
smaller PCB’s are normally referred to as
cards.
The printed circuit board / PCB of the 1960’s
connected electrical components together. The printed circuit
board / PCB used today interconnect hundreds of thousands
or millions of chip components.
The printed circuit is really an etched circuit; it has a copper
foil paced over a plastic or fibreglass base of each layer. Light
is sent through a negative image of the circuit paths onto each
layer. The unhardened areas of the circuit are removed when the
circuit is passed through an acid path. The finished layers are
glued to together to produce the finish circuit
board.
